Update on North American professors’ statement
The Hankyoreh ran an article about the 239 North American professors who signed the statement to express their concern for Korean democracy.
The article highlights 3 among the 239 (it's interesting to see who the Korean media considered academic celebrities): Hagen Koo (Sociology, University of Hawai'i at Mānoa) Hee Min Kim (Political Science, Florida State University), and Jae-Jung Suh (The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University).
Then it lists as "foreign" luminaries in Korean Studies: Edward J. Baker (Harvard-Yenching Institute), John Duncan (Asian Languages and Cultures, UCLA), Theodore Hughes [misreported as "huffs"] (Korean Studies, Columbia University), and Roger Janelli (East Asian Languages and Cultures, Indiana University).
Having seen the whole list of names, I can think of a few others -- um, like WOMEN? -- who should have been highlighted, but whatever. Men are always so much more impressive. Besides, who will do the heavy lifting (see photo below). HA!
