Referral for SugarSync
After checking out lots of backup and synchronization programs over the years, I've finally decided on SugarSync as the best option for me. It does an automatic, continuous, real time backup for all of my files (specific folder that I designated), and the latest files are accessible from SugarSync's secure server from any computer or mobile service. Unlike some other competitors, SugarSync syncs across multiple computers and devices, and their photo sharing option is nifty, too (though I haven't used that feature much).
See the comparison they offer here.
Anyway, this means, I can back up most of the important files on my iMac at home -- personal stuff, financial stuff, writing drafts and research files, my entire iPhoto library, and some music (30 GB is not enough for this). I can then synchronize a selection of these files (work files) with my iBook, and I can access any and all of these from my iPhone -- to look up quickly or to email to others. I can also access these files by logging on to SugarSync from any web browser.
Real life example: Yesterday, while out and about, I needed to access a copy of my Canada immigration documents that reside on the home computer (iMac). I had access to a computer on campus, so I logged in, located the file, and printed out a copy. Voila! The interface makes a huge difference to me -- it's pretty, it's fast, and it's my own file hierarchy, so it's easy enough to navigate and find stuff.
Sure, you can buy a monstrously huge hard drive for the price you pay for an annual SugarSync subscription, but honestly, I'm over it. I own three external back up drives already, but I'm constantly running out of space, I worry they will crash and leave me backupless, and besides, I often forget to run the backup program -- which defeats the purpose of having a backup system.
SugarSync's promo features a generous double referral bonus. If you sign up for a plan 30 GB or larger (and you should, if you want to back up any photos, music or god forbid, movies), you and I will EACH get an extra 10 GB of space. That is, if you sign up using my referral code. Good for you, and good for me!
If you sign up for the 2 GB free account, I get 500 MB. That's right -- for FREE, you can get 2.5 GB.
The 30 GB plan comes with a free 30-day trial, so if you change your mind, just cancel within the first 30 days (freeee!) and I still get 500 MB.
The double bonus promo continues until July 15, so I wouldn't put it off!

hi this post is automated from sugarsync, right? I mean an entire screenshot? I signed up for the free plan but hesitate at installing the plugin.. will this eat up CPU resources and slow down me playing Supreme Commander? hehe

Probably will eat up CPU resources, yes. But it’s worth the peace of mind for me. And no, this isn’t automated from SugarSync.

got the paid account and it’s great for syncing across computers, but… it doesn’t have automated sync (music) with mobile phones (specifically android) gah!
