Hello Judy,
I also am a 1.5 gen Korean-American that went to Berkeley. I liked stopping by your blog and thought I’d leave you with a note of appreciation.
I found your blog randomly, and started reading your blog posts re Korea’s talk of “resource diplomacy,” which led me to your comic. I really enjoyed hearing about your 24-hour challenge and getting a synopsis of your thesis. My grandparents escaped from North Korea and ended up becoming a big force behind building that world’s largest Presbyterian church in Seoul and I’ve seen a film about Koreans in Central Asia (which I had never heard about before the film) so it was very interesting to see how you were going to connect it all together in a geography thesis. I also enjoyed your pictures of Korean food and dogs. Thanks!
Wow, all grad students should draw a comic of their dissertations. Including moi. In the midst of studying for my qe’s next week and decided to read your comic for my break! It crystallizes vast winds of knowledge into 24 accessible pages. How that happen? Sheer genius, no doubt. Jo-oht-tta!
agreed! all grad students should draw a comic of their dissertation! i actually read all that and i doubt i would have survived the 1000 page thesis hmm i can’t even survive reading back my own thesis! and i really enjoyed how you manage to discuss the whole thing in a geopolitical framework. i found this from somebody who twittered about it and just the concept of a comics version of the thesis is enough to draw me here but a geography one as well! haha yeah im a geog grad student too so this is awesome will get the grad students in my office to read it too good luck with the central asia field work
What an incredible project/dissertation! The process of turning your work into a comic strip is such an innovative, exciting idea. Best of luck in your work!

Wow, that is a great comic! Interesting, informative, funny, sad and disturbing. The world needs more of this kind of analysis. And a better plan….

Hi Judy,
I finally finished reading your comic in a moment of serious procrastination. It sounds great! And your comic was great!
Did Jihye tell you I’m going to study how Buddhists and other social movements in Korea talk? It seems like everything is converging…
hope you are doing well.
take care…
